One Piece Chapter 985 Review: NEW ONIGASHIMA
I’ve finally caught up to the current chapters of One Piece so I decided that now is the right time to start One Piece chapter reviews. Oh what a time to start. This chapter is not only the best chapter in Wano act 3, but probably the best chapter of Wano. The chapter starts with the Scabbards fighting against Kanjiro to rescue Momonosukw. But Kajiro has his own army of samurai. This scene is very good and I love the imagery. But it’s definitely the weakest scene in the chapter, which is saying a lot. We cut to Yamato and Luffy, and just like I thought, Yamato asks to join the Straw Hats. I love this. Yamato as a character is definitely very cool but this also shows a sort of progression of members. We had Zoro, Sanji and the others. Then we got to Franky who was part of a powerful family. After this Brook joined the crew as an undead skeleton, showing that the New World was nothing to scoff at and had some of the most powerful and odd figures in One Piece. The next member was Jinbei, who was one of the 7 Warlords. Now we get Yamato, the daughter of a Yonko. Luffy deicides to let her join and free her from Kaido. But just as Luffy is about to undo her explosive chains…Kaido and Big Mom make their announcement. This scene had me shocked. Kaido announces the alliance with the Big Mom Pirates, but we as the readers already knew that. But there’s more. Kaido and Big Mom will be collecting the ANCIENT WEAPONS. What!? I was reading the chapter on my phone and threw it across the room out of pure shock. After I collected my thoughts and kept reading Kaido drops another bomb. He will try to get the One Piece. At this point I was jumping around like a maniac. But somehow, that’s not all. Kaido is making Wano a lawless country for pirates. Orochi is upset by this, which makes sense. So what happens next? Kaido kills Orochi. WHAT!?!? Kaido then announces the new name of Wano. “New Onigashima”. I like that. The last announcement Kaido makes is that Yamato will be the new shogun…I loved this. It was all shocking and was just pure adrenaline. I give this chapter a 5/5. Every scene was engaging and shocking. A lot of things are starting to pay off and I feel like Wano is really getting into full final battle territory now. Click here to read the chapter for yourself.
